Maspeth Town Hall is in its 6th year at IS 49 as a SONYC program. School's Out New York City (SONYC) serves as a pathway to success for youth in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. The students are provided a variety of different clubs and activities to participate in on a daily basis. The overall structure of the program allows for students to make their own choices in which of the clubs and activities they'd be interested in attending or signing up for. Clubs like our Drama Club, Lego Robotics / WIRED Club, and our Sports Leagues are just a few examples of the counselor / instructor-led activities that encourage youth to actively participate in academic and recreational development. Students are also provided a light snack at the beginning of the day with a brief run through of the daily schedule to inform them what activities are available each day.

As Usual

We have worked with school representatives, after school staff, and our dedicated and experienced veteran staff to develop our Program Goals. Our Program Goals are based on the needs of the school community and keeps our after school program evolving and working hard for the community we serve.

Provide a nurturing and safe environment for children to grow academically, physically, and socially.

Engage youth in STEM-related activities (Science Technology Engineering and Math).

Provide leadership development through structured activities and clubs, led by trained staff.

Encourage youth to participate in pro-social environments and discourage any instances of bullying, fighting, violence, etc.

Provide homework assistance to youth in need.

Utilize and encourage the diversity of the student body to incorporate youth in constructive group activities

(DIY, Arts & Crafts, and Drama Clubs).
